That Guy's a Great Player and he really broke it all down nicely, it's Pretty Crazy how Vinnie could play this stuff and make it look so freaking easy...

I almost watched all of it this morning and I need to watch some parts of the Metal Tech video to get my response to the review ready.

on this page there's a better explanation of some of his note choices:

It’s very cool that a cool guitar dude like this has done a review of Vinnie’s guitar instrucional video. I have heard so much negativity on guitar forums when this video is brought up, so this is a breath of fresh air.

He’s actually super nice, all things considered, as the Vinnie video is pretty intense, as we know.

I was wondering what he would think of the “miming” of the All Systems Go solos, and he mentions being suspicious of possible miming, but then gives the thumbs up that it was all played live.

I still don’t believe that. Yes, the very start, before the solos, is live, Vinnie is just playing over that beat, but as soon as the ASG solos part begins, you get both the bored AND the death stare look. The death stare, that was a funny one.

To me, watching closely, and knowing these songs, it seems like he is definitely miming the ASG solos.

The tone is also different, it’s not his Metal Tech tone, it’s the tone from the studio, cause it wasn’t played live then and there.

Speaking of tone, he was soooo nice not to say anything about Vinnie’s SUPER 80’s tone, heavily processed and delayed. Not even one word about it, which I thought was strange. It was the 80’s, so hey, why not?

I totally get the teaching part, and it makes sense. I surely couldn’t learn much from this, as it’s just too much, too hard, even though it’s cool. As mentioned, not every guitar player, is a teacher. I know I couldn’t teach very well.

And then there is the elephant in the room. Vinnie’s total change of appearance. It still makes no sense to this day. I like his first look best, in this video, even though I like this look in the That Time Of Year video. It doesn’t seem to work as well here, and Vinnie just looks strange/different.

I’ve been sitting here with my guitar (should be doing some band practice), and it’s probably cause I’m not a shredder and my hands don’t stretch across the fretboard like that, but it seems to me that yes, just about anything sounds good when you play it at hyperspeed, which Vinnie is easily able to do. Well, at least he could back then.

It might also be me, but this video seems to be getting a crazy amount of views for this channel.
