Cool shot, from the unused LIU photo sessions. Yes it looks like Vinnie just borrowed one of Eric's belts. Also, shouldn't "The Fox" be wearing the tail that Paul's wearing? I loved Gene's makeup during this era too. I know they had to let go of the makeup during this time to survive, but this lineup looked so damn cool in full regalia!
Promises made, crying in vain, all empty. Never accepting the blame and not letting go of the shame. A river of tears, as months turn to years, all wasted. On someone not willing to change. Now only a shadow remains!
That's the best line up the best costumes the best songs KISS ever had!
My absolutely favor constellation from this time in make up.
My cover for LIU would be in make up - it looks so damn cool!

Wolfi,
I am there with you. I really, really, really wish KISS had kept the make-up on for LICK IT UP. We needed more pics of Vinnie in make-up. This version of the band was the most powerful musically. (Notice I didn't say "best".) I will always love the original a little more because of Ace & Peter...as I believe Ace & Peter defined the sound of KISS. Listen to the WICKED LESTER album(s) and demos. Then listen to what those songs became after Ace. Then listen to the KISS solo albums and Ace's post-KISS solo work. Ace took Gene & Paul's great songs and gave them that "X" ingredient. I also credit Peter...whose playing I LOVE...impacted the sound of the band by not really being able to play METAL drums. Peter's lack of that particular ability made KISS a hard-rock/pop band instead of a metal band.
I look at the post-originals line-up as a different band. The Vinnie/Eric sonic combination along with the Vinnie/Gene or Vinnie/Paul songwriting was a damn powerful band. Some of the best the band has played, great metal songs and I LOVE the make-up and costumes. It's a shame we weren't destined to get 4-5 albums from this line-up.
Open your window and see the real world
To know what you've been missing
Come out of the shadows
Insecurity lies
In a heart afraid to listen
