Michael seems cool but his peacemaker abilities weren't good enough to get through Ed's clouded head at the time and now Ed gets to play music with his kid. I dig seeing that .

He was fired by Van Halen because he was still friends with Sammy! He joined Sammy after being told he wasn't wanted in VH! That's the way I read it. But Eddie having a clouded mind? Yeah, you got that right!!!

I have been a VH fan since I was a kid and my older brother brought home their albums. I love Diamond Dave. I'm saying he is not singing "raspy" or "jazzy" in that clip. It sounds like he has a sore throat and he's not close to pitch on much of that.

As I said above...it's a dinky club warm-up show. There could be a half-dozen reasons he doesn't sound his best.

I'd also like to add that Dave is not a singer. He's an entertainer and I love him for it.

Diamond Dave stopped the raspy thing many years ago , if you listen to his 1994 YFLM album
he totally changed his singing style, im sure he started to take lessons or something that made him change so much , the 1991 ALAE album has some real good raspy voices on it ! Love it ! I know exactly what you are talking about im a BIG BIG BIG DLR fan and he is my #1 inspiration with gene simmons at my singing style

Not a bad song. It's nice. Has some classic vibe to it. Have a feeling it's going to be one of those "creepers", where you kinda scratch your head at first but by the time you've heard it 4 or 5 times you start really liking it.

One thing I failed to mention about the video of the club performance at the top of the post is how good the bass sounded. Damn, Wolfgang is pretty good. Initially I assumed it was just Eddie playing in studio and have Wolfie playing a simplified bassline in concert...but he's really talented.

1) The great thing about this board is that most people respect eachothers opinions, even when they don't agree with it. Unlike another board that involves the name Vinnie Vincent.

2) I still love DLR. It's my opinion that Dave just doesn't sound as good as he can on that club video. I'm sure in a real concert environment when the band has proper monitors and equipment and soundcheck he is going to sound like the Diamond he is.

I think the song is good its VanHalen you can tell its VanHalen.
The reports from the some of the guys that were at the same studio said Eddie was freaking scared to death he couldn't play up to snuff, I think it was pretty clear to him at the time the booze and dope had taken a toll.
But with that said I think Eddie did a fantastic job at the club show and the tattoo track is pretty dam good, As long as he stays sober on the road its gonna be a great new start for VanHalen.

As far as The Michael Anthony thing, hes a great guy, you can tell that and VH should have never let him go for what they did, asking a musician to sit on his hands for 10 years while you put on your addiction hat is stupid and selfish. But as far as him as a bass player he has never been that outstanding in my opinion, solid yes great .. not so much.

Rock bands are like pizza. You always have the few who prefer something unusual, but the most popular pizza in the world is plain pepperoni.

Crust = drummer
Sauce = bass player
Cheese = guitarist
Pepperoni = lead singer

You can change the ingredients (Sausage pizza, zesty sauce, etc.), but the pizza will taste different. It can still be a good pizza, but it won't be the same.

You can add ingredients. (extra guitars, keyboards, backing vocalists)
You can change the style to stuffed or deep dish. (7 minute songs, time signature changes.)
You can use expensive ingredients. (Steve Vai)

And all those things will make a good tasting pizza. But at the end of the day, the most popular pizza will STILL be plain pepperoni.
