Genebaby, here is a link to another one ( Fusion Custom) it seems the 650xl is a slighty different model. This one in the link has a student fretboard and lacks the pre-amp that mine has. This one os a bolt on. But it is still in the desert crackle...check it out..... http://www.guitar-museum.com/guitar-233 ... tom-guitar

Freddy, during this time period bolt on import Charvels like these came in 22 and 24 frets.

The 22 fret models were standard Fender scale length, 25.5.

The 24 fret models were Gibson scale length, 24.75. Hence the Fusion name. They were a fusion of a strat shaped guitar with a LP scale length.

The standard neck thru models with 24 frets were also standard Fender scale length, of which the 650XL is one of those. It's just the updated version of the Model 6 with new logo and better hardware. Plus they recessed the trem a bit.

The desert crackle finish has nothing to do with the model name or scale length, it was offered on a range of Charvels at the time.

The 750XL archtop guitars a different again as they are constructed like a LP, with set in neck and carved maple cap. They have 24 frets and are also Gibson scale lenght.

You can check on yours Freddy, it willl be 25.5 inches.

Actually I measured it Vic and I only come up with 5 1/4 it has the "compound radius" however
which is always a plus...... (so I hear) LMAO

All joking aside, good info Vic. Sorry never meant to imply the Crackle finish had anything to do with the model type. Thought that was obvious.

Kev, what is the bullseye guitar you sometimes have in your avatar?
Vic,
The Tele Bullseye is just one of my project guitars. It's a cheap Charvel Tele Copy that I picked up for a great price and I'll get it dialed in. It's pretty good now but I plan to shim the neck a bit more and if I need to level and dress the frets. This will allow me to also raise the cheapo floyd copy up higher on the pivot studs and slightly increase the bridge movement range. I always wanted a Telecaster with a trem.

Oooh, is that one from a few years ago? I remember them now, standard trem, 24 frets with the Rising Sun graphic. I think Outkast played one around that time on some Award show or something. We were very excited to see a band playing on.

Yeah, I saw your other post, it's a Journeyman. They came out with the Traditional and Model A in 2002.

Very cool with the Rising Sun graphic, again, very 80's!!

The Model A, especially with the Koa top, is very smilar to my San Dimas 1 from '95, only made in Japan with some different hardware.

I am a Charvel addict and have been since the 80s.

Here are some of the ones I currently own and some I have owned in the past. I think I have owned about 25 Charvels over the years. I still own about 8-9. Here are some of the pics I could find.

A couple of new pro-mods I had refinished

Genebaby...

I actually remember your Jackson story from a few years ago. I think I saw it on the JCF forum.

I havent spoken with Lee in 5-7 years. The last time I spoke with him was when he built me GMW #7 with the ballsack headstock. I dont even remember how long ago that was.

What ever happened with your Jackson? Did you get it resolved?

You've got a ball sack headstock GMW Jason? I was making fun of that design a few weeks or so ago here, I found the old pic from the JCF of the headstock with the hair on the balls etc.

That was a classic that GMW of mine. A classic turd that required a lot of polishing. I did eventually replace the fretboard with a much, much nicer one but neither me or my luthier thought to change the thickness of the new board to match the old.

Now it plays fine, as the old board was super shit, but it's too thick for my liking. One day we will do it again and I'll possibly finally get the guitar I paid Lee for.

Strangely enough it was his first ever 24 fret bolt-on he had built and the last, the option was removed after my guitar, 24 frets was only in neck-thru. Fuck I hate Lee. Arrogant prick.

The GMW talk does it to me every time. Lee fucking with that guitar was like fucking with one of my kids. You don't get over that. People might think I'm over it by now but I'm not, Lee is a cock smoker of impressive magnitude.

Now that I think of it, he's the perfect builder of the VVMG.

It's cool Jason, I don't mind, it's good to get the rage out now and then.

That guitar is the one I saw on the JCF getting ball sacked. I could never buy a guitar with that headstock. Impossible to bond with it. Fuck Lee can have some great stuff built but he fucked me over good and proper.

This is my Model 2 which I bought new in 1988 for GBP 399 (about USD 700 at the time). Being pretty inexperienced, I bought it because it was the closest I could get to buying a Jackson, which I knew were handmade and thought were very cool as some of my heros used them.

I got a red single humbucker because of EVH, and was even going to Frankenstein stripe it with tape! (I never did though, couldn’t bring myself to mess with it).

Although made in Japan, it’s all original apart from the trem which is a direct replacement after the original broke (one of the knife edges) in the early 90s when I dropped it flat on it’s front – ouch.

This is the second and last guitar I bought – still the only guitar I own – and I absolutely love it. I still can’t really play very well at all, but it feels gorgeous!

I just took it back to the local dealer I got it from and they ordered one and plumbed it in. It wasn't too long after it was bought so I guess they were fairly available. I didn't know what I was doing, setup wise, back then so wouldn't touch it myself.

I did play it for a while before getting it repleced and it still stayed in tune, even doing wild stuff. Theres still cracks in the paint underneath where the 'Rose crunched it though!

That's cool, the JT6 is hard to find parts for these days. You can replace the whole thing with an Original or Schaller Floyd. I did that on my Model 88, including the trem posts and post bushings, all new.

I actually like the JT6, the way the top is pretty flat and fine tune tuners are out of the way; they never move.

Mine is still in pretty good nick (though it doesn't get much abuse), and I still have the original bag of bits from when I got it!

The JT6 is a good trem if it's in good shape, like yours would be. Lots of guitars out there with abused trems and you can't do much other than replace them, unless you can find a NOS one somewhere.

The funny thing is, over the years I've often thought about changing bits - pickup, trem, nut, machine heads (even the my original Frankensteining idea) but for some reason I can't do it! Maybe it's because it's always been my only guitar, I have to keep it as it is. And now it's so well set up...

(Perhaps I need to get a cheepie of eBay to take a hammer to!)
