I use Ernie Ball Slinky's, 10-46. I used to use Diaddario because Tesla used them but then I tried Slinky's and it's been love ever since. I use the acoustic versions as well.

10-46 is my gauge, good tone and good feel. I can't play on 9's, they are just that little bit too thin and wispy.

This is the same for me. I don't feel comfortable using 9s because their sound doesn't give me the push that I like. And also I have memories of playing 9s till my index finger bled, so its a bit of a nightmare also.

If you have to make a straining agony sound to bend the strings then that's my size.

SIT strings! Hands down longest lasting string I've ever used! I use 8-38 because I'm a wuss!!!

Actually I have big fingers and need ALL the space I can between the strings!!!

I used to use sit when I had solid bodies.. I agree the best. I used dean markley blue steal in 1989 and 90 but went back to SIT. Dogal are really good too http://www.dogalstrings.it/Strings_Mode ... gs_Moderno

Nah! They're short too!!!!

Also because I didn't play for nearly a year I went with the lightest strings I could get! If there were sevens in the shop I would have bought them!!! Funny thing is that after all that time I still had calluses on my finger tips!!!

I think KK Downing used sevens?? Maybe sixes???? Man, sixes!!! You could cut a steak with them!!!!

I have found reference to Billy using either 8's or 7's, and both are seriously wimpy, I am shocked he would use such a light gauge. They would flap so much I don't know how he does his pinch harmonics. I understand he uses a Mexican peso.

Satriani uses Legato is he a Vagina? I think not. I don't know what string gauge that he uses but he has got TONE FOR DAYS! :-)

I think that it is important to be capable of picking every note but I think that Legato is cool for accents as long as it's not over used.

I don't know how such light gauge strings can sound ok, I guess it's in the mix, cause even when I played 9's one night on a Charvel I had just got in and hadn't changed the strings, it was just sooo different. It was harder to hear me.

Each little .01 makes such a big difference!!!

i think its really hard to step down once you are used to it. 11s are where i would go on a solid and 13 or 14 on a semi.

i've tried many different brands over the years, from Dean markley to Ernie Ball, to galli to the GHS, and stayed within the 09-42 or 010 gauge.I've tried the 011-52 set and i've liked it, even if it makes it a bit more dificult..... you have to get used to it and then the thinner strings feel like they were a bunch of hairs.
On the variax i've chosen the elixir based on the fact that the piezo of the variax give the sound an attack that is too fast for my taste(if i use the emulations of the famous guitars, that is) so the goretex of the elixir deadens the attack a bit.
