NGD, again!!

Post by Genebaby »

So after some recent hankering for a 550, this happened this weekend:
20240511_183343.jpg
Mint Road Flare Red RG550!

It did play well when I picked it up with the standard strings and tuning. Today I set it up for my 10-46 Ernie Ball Slinky's and E Flat and it took it like a champ, very impressed.

The neck is super thin, thinner than it needs to be, but I can play it. Sitting down so far, LoL. Will get a strap for it this week.

She's a keeper, so I will be getting some upgraded pickups, probably Tone Zone in red at least for the bridge, still deciding on neck, but maybe another Tone Zone.

I'll get a dual hum pickguard and delete the single coil. It's screwed all the way down now too, so it's out of my way.

I did find the switch is a little in the way when the neck is selected, but that will be fixed when I turn it into a 3-way toggle, which is all I need.

Yep, you never know what you'll find!!!

Maybe it's better not to look. Certainly cheaper!!

So far I've ordere a case for it and am still researching pickup choices, that I can get in red.

I have made my pickup choice. I've ordered a set of Bare Knuckles Nail Bomb's, in red with black bolt pole pieces.

Currently researching the pickguard options and looking for switch tips for the toggle in red and not sure on wether I'll chase a red plastic volume, or use a back metal one. Maybe I'll see if red metal ones exist.

Slowly getting there, the case arrived today!

It may just be me, but the 550 loves her new home.

Waiting to hear back from a company that does a cool looking pickguard, and everything I need will be ordered.

Have just finished the 550, this is what has happened.

I attempted to do the re-wiring myself and got it close, but ended up getting a litte bit of help, which took a few minutes, and then I put it back in the guitar.

The inlays are just stickers, to see how I like it, but I think if I did it for real I would have to get some made like this as I'm not as big a fan of the solid colours for the pyramid.

It also has a Magik Arm to replace the push in bushing one that comes standard.

Absolutely beautiful Vic! I have a friend that was really into Ibanez and had a bunch of RG 550’s and JEMS that I got to play. Super thin flat necks and I love the Edge Trems. I think that Andrew really likes the Edge Trems too

Hey Kev!

Andrew is a bit of an Edge fan, yes....well, more than a bit......LoL.....

I've got a strap for it and look forward to using it now too. So many guitars, so little time is how the saying goes I think.

The RG550 and the Jem are cool guitars.

You guys would be proud of me, or maybe think I'm crazy, but I resisted buying a Carvin DC600C in a very similar colour scheme to one of my other guitars. Maybe if it had the forbidden headstock I would have caved. I have more then enough guitars now, and plenty of amps/modellers to play them through, so I do need to keep resisting.

Until the next NGD!!!!
