Who was the buyer of the pink Rhoads from Vinnie?

Post by WYLDCHYLD »

So I keep hearing that Vinnie sold a pink Rhoads (that he "claimed" to have played, but apparently never did), to a fan. So who is this fan and where is this guitar now?

I have seen pics of two different guitars signed by Vinnie on the front:
One is the Cardiff guitar (has this one yet been confirmed to be the original gold Rhoads?), and I believe the other to be the (unused?) one Vinnie sold to a fan. (Notice the signatures on the fronts of each are totally different)

Any info would be appreciated.

I LOVE Vinnie's pink Jackson Rhoads guitars and VVVs, and would love to buy a few if anyone owns any original Jacksons they'd maybe consider putting up for sale...please email me at JONMANKUTA@aol.com

*(And Vinnie, if you're reading this and want to part with something you have hidden away, please also email me)

Interesting that the bottom picture looks to have "89 written on it, when the photo was snapped in '96? I've always thought is was the same guitar and I still do.

As far as we know, Vinnie only had one of his gold Rhoads re-sprayed for the LIU tour as footage shows he used a pink and gold Rhoads (reverse inlays) at the same show.

One theory is that the HR Cafe guitar is the re-sprayed gold Rhoads used on the the LIU tour and then used to record VVI and used again on ASG. The reason for the second re-spray was due to it being the guitar that got broken, set on fire and pee peed on by Vinnie during the VVI recordings! But it's only a theory........

Same guitar just re signed it and put in a non working pickup very sloppily. He quotes it was used to record creatures on hard rock plaque but impossible. Vv was given guitars after he joined kiss. I believe guitar is now in bali Indonesia as Cardiff hard rock closed down.

Nope, I stand by the theory of two different guitars. Why would he erase a guitar that already has a signature on it? If anything, he'd just erase the top horn end and sign it to Hard Rock, he wouldn't waste the time to sign his name again in almost the same way in the same place on the guitar.

So back to my original question, what was the pink Rhoads he sold (but supposedly never used), and how can I contact whoever bought it from him?

The only story we know came from KISS, who said Vinnie, and if you believe them, sold a guitar to a fan, "that he didn't even play"! What that guitar was....who knows?

The HR Cafe guitar is NOT for sale! I and a couple of others tried to purchase it last year and they won't sell! And I have an inside guy there and he can't get them to budge!

I stand by the same guitar theory. Vinnie said he owned 6 Rhoads in the March '87 Guitar World.

I was under the impression that Vinnie sold a pink Rhoads at the Kiss Konvention to a fan, but that it's a different guitar than the Hard Rock Cafe guitar. By the way, I do believe the HRC guitar is in fact likely the original gold one repainted (again), and no, the Hard Rock Cafe NEVER sells guitars...they're owned by the Indian casino owners now, and they don't need our petty little offers of money (just curious though of how much you offered them?).

No it didn't sell to a fan. The guy organising the scandanavian expos said it was a fake but who knows. I am 100% sure the expo one is the hard rock one and no I don't think this was any guitar vv was ever photographed with kiss in and no I can not believe vv would have 6 based on what he says in an interview but its possible but nothing coming out of any rock stars mouth in the 80s should be believed. I think he had maybe 2 gold, one new pink on liu tour, white and black plus a student neck pink at namm in 84. My guess would be 4 or 5 in kiss and one after unless it was a display model from Jackson.

The headstock logo is for sure not kiss era.

Also for what its worth grover said it wasn't original based on picture. He thought it was an ed roman copy but who knows. Also I can not see vv having two headstocks repainted pink if he was selling two.. The only thing in favour of it being real I found no serial number on it but that could also be because a copy or some other reason.
