I watched that tape to death trying to study his technique and I actually incorporated his finger style into my own shred technique! how about anyone else?

I use my middle finger here and there (nothing rude of course ) as it makes some stuff easier. I have been trying to use the middle & ring to play 3 string arpeggios eg. Yngwie's Demon Driver arpeggios but I usually get angry and watch tv! I'll keep at it though.

There are a lot of guys using hybrid picking now even though Bret Garsed & Michael Lee Firkins were doing it in the 80's. Plenty of stuff on YT. The super smooth & tasty Rick Graham is great. If God said "who would you like to be able to play like?", it'd probably be Rick!

For pure technique in the field of hybrid (or Swybrid...sweep + hybrid...as he calls it) would be Marshall Harrison. He does a weekly Friday night (US time) live feed on YT for 1.15-1.30 hr, mostly classical but often with much of the shred we grew up with. He like many of the others does Skype lessons too. I think he lives in Houston? He's a bit of a "cold fish" personality wise but the technique is to die for. I usually sit and dribble on a Saturday arvo (my time) and watch in awe. Oh and he plays classical piano and is a bit of a maths genius too...some have all the luck!

Yeah, I technically never learnt anything from it, but it was great to watch, even before I was playing guitar, which is when I got it. I bought Bruce's Hot Licks video as well, for my KISS collection.

I would have said this before, but when I was a non guitarist I didn't notice Vinnie was miming the ASG solos at the start, I was bummed when I realised that, cause I thought it was amazing to watch him. You could see he knew how to play it, but miming was not as cool.

I'm not sure if miming happened on other guitarists tech videos? Did anybody ever see that before or since?

I would say it is one thing for me to "lipsync" over another guitarist's recorded work. But that was his material. Yes it was recorded and then synced. But that was for production value. It takes many takes to get it perfect and doing that on film would get so costly. Not to mention the audio limitations of how it would sound. The masters are multi layered and polished, its is ultimately his work, just not at that moment.

I get what you are saying, but the thrill was gone once I realised he wasn't recreating his solos live, in front of the camera. I would have loved to have seen that.

Of course it's way better than seeing me on Youtube, miming to Vinnie's work....lol....

It used to crack me up that he "played" the solos from ASG pretty deadpan, almost bored looking, apart from at the end of Ashes to Ashes when he got a bit animated. Given his style you would have thought he would have been more OTT with them. Also loved that he threw (I think it was) the "Animal" solo in there.
I also loved the "series of flat 5's" lick that he did, so cool. But then the whole vid was.

My feeling on the matter is that I think these Videos, especially the Vinnie Vincent one were done on the cheap. Shoe String, not even Guitar String Budget.
Not pointing the finger @ VV, but more the company who produced them.
I feel that we were lucky to even get that much. Lots of other great player never got to have that kind of Guitar Tech Video done.
Question : does EVH have one?

Strange you mention EVH, I didn't realise he was absent from these kind of videos. Many guitar players did do one, lots of cool players like Zakk (when he was really cool).

Maybe EVH didn't want to participate and share his genuis.

I guess it was possibly easy money. Not much to do other than point a camera at a guy playing guitar. You could have pretty much done it by yourself....
