Open string licks
Open string licks
To all of you who’ve seen and/or studied the REH Metal Tech video, you probably recall the short section on using open strings during scalar playing.
My question is if anybody is able to point out a lead section in which Vinnie actually uses this technique?

Can you remind me where in the video that is ?
Re: Open string licks
Very possible. I really haven't really looked into it. I figured I could ask here before deep diving into the catalog to find some licks to copy hehe.

This is a good reason to listen to Speedball jam with full recollection!

Re: Open string licks
Thanks, needed the timestamp.
How would you know?
I can't really hear it.
Even when he plays it slow, i can barley see it, and if he hadn't said so, probably wouldn't have known.
Good luck in your search

Re: Open string licks
Ace uses heaps of open strings....not intentionally of course!
Promises made, crying in vain, all empty. Never accepting the blame and not letting go of the shame. A river of tears, as months turn to years, all wasted. On someone not willing to change. Now only a shadow remains!

I'm sure he did occasionally use it in many solos whenever there was an open string alternative, gives your left hand a break when you go fast, and keeps on ringing while you go on, giving the whole thing more color.
Re: Open string licks
Yeah, to me open string licks makes me think of a country feel, not just swapping an open note for a fretted one, the listener would never know.
