Hard Report 4/29 on Vinnie airplay, ititial shipment etc

Vinnie Vincent Invasion, "Ashes To Ashes", Chrysalis.... Room is tight--but you'll notice
the likes of KUPD, WLLZ, WYNF, WIMZ, WHJY and KISS all made room for the Vinman. Obviously they know what a well
oiled machine this project is. Between a 200K initial order, coverage in virtually every guitar oriented periodical and even
a special advance to Vinnie's Fan club, it sure looks to us like every special interest base is covered.

Page 32 under "Heavy Hitters"

Vinnie Vincent, "Ashes To Ashes",Chrysalis.... Well, it comes as no surprise that this
record was #1 Most Added Metal and debuted at 37* on Hard Hitters, they also had a great week on AOR. By next week it
will no doubt be making amove on some of the die-hards that make up the top twenty. With all the talent and energy that this
band possesses it looks like the Lp will be a stellar success.

The masses agree. KFMX's Jeff Ivan says, "Another very hot release is the new Vinnie Vincent Invasion. This record is going
to go a long way. Commercial radio will eat this one up. Vinnie is still progressing as a songwriter and guitarist" and Mad
Max Hammer quipped, "The Vinnie Vincent Invasion has a great new singer with the same sound in Mark Slaughter. It's
"All Systems Go" for the Invasion. This one will do just as well if not better for Vinnie." With the new direction and image the
Invasion chose to go with on this project, they've definitely gotten a one way ticket to hitdom

RADIO COMMENTS

Mad Max Hammer, Z-Rock Satellite
Z-Rock dives deep into the new Poison album "Open Up And
Say Ahh". We're about eight cuts deep. Another guaranteed
platinum and crossover smash from the L.A. rock pigs. The
song "Fallen Angel" is a rippin' smash....

The Vinnie Vincent Invasion has a new singer with the same sound in Mark
Slaughter. It's "All Systems Go" for the Invasion. This one will
do just as good ifnot better for Vinnie Vincent.

I really like the Oueensryche, but I'd like to see them break out of the
eclectic mode. This one will go gold and beyond for them....
The new Testament, besides the track "Nobody's Fault", caters
to the head bangers and the real rockers, too.

Jeff Ivan, KFMX, Lubbock
God, is that new Testament album hot! Not just the Ep but the
whole album. It's unreal how far these guys have progressed.
Every song including the two instrumentals are radio ready.
The New Order will blow your mind....

Another very hot release is the new Vinnie Vincent Invasion. This record is
going to go along way. Commercial radio will eat this one up.
Vinnie is still progressing as a songwriter and guitarist. Make
sure you get the CD for two extra instrumentals....

Patty Martin, KSJO, San Jose
Ronnie Montrose moves back into our Top 5 requests. We're
also getting tremendous response to Neil Young, The Church,
Cheap Trick, Robin Trower and Midnight This week we're
adding Poison and expect big things from this record....

I also expect big things from Vinnie Vincent. We're testing it this
week and I predict a telephone invasion once we put it on the
air.

"The Kaptain" Kevin K. Kasky. WOUR's Power Hour
In spite of their name, (Satan) which we pronounce as "Stan",
this band is good. They have some really cool harmonies be-
hind the pounding beat of some well written songs.... The
Maiden is doing really well here on the Power Hour.... Ardent
has gotten onto the "Ladykillers" compilation from New
Renaissance records. That will be great exposure, and then
you'll hear why they stayed on top of the Power Hour for 13
weeks without fail....

The new Vinnie is pretty good, and it did some really good rockin' last week...

and then further in the magazine.... all the various adds for the single

Isn't it great to have actual facts instead of dementia memories??!

Hard Report May 6, 1988

Vinnie Vincent Invasion,"Ashes To Ashes",Chrysalis....They're out there waiting to hear it--as
WQFM's Dan Hansen updates,"Gave Vinnie a spin on Killer's 'Dig It Or Die" and it stimulated real good phone response--
85-90%positive"....KLAQ's Mike Ramsey reports, "Vinnie has a real strong following here.

His shows always do very well with our listeners. Newon11,with WDVE, KLAQ, KOZZ, WHCN, WQFM and WRQK topping the list
Debut97*--with WHJY, WLLZ, WYNF,WIMZ,WEZX and KISS among the 22 already in.

MOST ADDED METAL

#2 Vinnie Vincent Invasion "All Systems Go"

Most Requested Metal
#9 Vinnie Vincent Invasion

Vinnie Vincent Invasion,"All Systems Go",Chrysalis....If a monstrous 37-8 *Hard Hitters move is any indication of a great
record, then this certainly qualifies.Hell, it's enough to make it a Record Of The Week!

The Invasion's latest also scored well on the Most Metal chart(#2) and debuts on the Most Requested Metal chart
at #9 as well making some waves on the mainstream side of life with a Hard Hundred debut at97*

Keep in mind that most of the metal adds are for the album, speaking of which, let's do depth.

Beside sjust"Ashes To Ashes" (also featured on the Hard Hitters CD Sampler),one can find a virtual multitude of tracks to choose from.
"Deeper An dDeeper","Dirty Rhythm"and"Burn"are all out rockers while, for your softer side,"Love Kills"and the favorite "Ecstasy" supply a more mellow tone.

The real surprise of the album is the vocals of Mark Slaughter. Very impressive to say the least. KBER, KFMH, KFMX, KISS (metal and AOR),KRSR, KSLC, KSJS, KTEC and KUCA are on it as well as WAIF, WARC, WCDB, WCWP, WIXV, WJUL,WKNC,WPYX,WRFL,WVVS,KJJO,KNAC and Z-Rock.

Hard Report 5/20/1988

Vinnie Vincent Invasion, "Ashes To Ashes", Chrysalis.... WHCN steps out with Vinnie's
first top 5 phone report, with Kim Alexander explaining, "If it's related to Kiss it works in Hartford. Ace Frehley did really well
here, too ---and Vinnie's top 5 phones after only a week"! WFYV's Mike Areford also reports active calls, with Vinnie's
concert appearance last year apparently still paying big dividends. New on 'FYV, KOMP, KZRR, WZZO, WCCC,
KFMX, and KFMG, with 35 total stations moving "Ashes" 85-72*.

In a Carmine interview he talks Vinnie (the relevant part)
Chris: Luckily AOR is opening up more to metal groups like
Maiden and others....

Carmine: Yeah, and the stuff like Vinnie Vincent. Vinnie's a
friend of mine. We played in a band together 8 years ago. That
stuff is cool and Lita Ford and Hurricane. They're a pretty cool
band. A lot of these guys I just don't understand though.
There's rock like Pat Travers playing around with no record.

Chris: Any last thoughts for our readers?

Carmine: Just to give King Kobra a chance. I've been in the
business 20 years, I can't be that far off. I think it's a real good
record and has all of the elements of an album that can do well
on radio and sell. Just "Take It Off" everywhere

Back to Radio Programmers

Redbeard, KTXQ, Dallas
Some airplay is better than no airplay, and if you have a
problem like I do with Vinnie Vincent's "Ashes to Ashes", dig
up the "All Systems Go" CD and you'll find a baker's dozen of
songs in there to choose from. I recommend starting with
"That Time Of Year". Do a blind test and see how many Bon
Jovi calls you get...

Vinnie Vincent Invasion, "Ashes To Ashes", Chrysalis.... Happening West Coast clout rolls in this
week --with KLOS, KSJO, KOME, KEZE and KBER. KSJO's Patty Martin comments, "We tested it and it did really well, and
we've consistently gotten enough calls to warrant our adding it. There's a core of people out there who know who he is and like
him a lot. That takes the total count to 42--a list that includes majors WDVE, WLLZ, KISS, KRXQ, WFYV, WHJY and WYNF. Also
be sure to check out the Redbeard approved future classic, "That Time Of Year", which also received the Stamp Of The Champ
from KISS's Joe Anthony this week. You'll be impressed.

May 27th Chrysalis ad
This record screamed 101 points in Billboard last week 181* to 80*!!

This record is top 5 phones at WHCN

This record is over 200,000 units sold, cash registers ringing everywhere

This record belongs on your radio station now.

New Vinnie Vincent fans KLOS KSJO KOME KBER KBAT
and so many more this page won't hold!

RADIO COMMENTS
Michael Cross, KJJO, Minneapolis
Hopefully, by the time you read this, I will have survived the
world premier opening weekend of the Monsters of Rock tour.
More details coming!... Vinnie Vincent is blowing the phones
apart, and so we're in with our second track "That Time of
Year", which anybody could play.

Michael Cross. KJJO. Minneapolis
And now, a personal appeal to all AOR programmers too afraid to play bands that rock: Please don't
judge bands by their names. Example; Vinnie Vincent Invasion's "That time
of Year". This might be a "Metal" band to most of you but, (A) it's not a metal
band and (B) this is a ballad with punch. Please crank it up. (I feel like I
should be the new Midwest AOR promotion guy for Chrysalis--what a plug!)
And, if no one minds, a lot of bragging.

Hard Report 8/19

Here is some news that the Earl found extremely startling.
Dana Strum has left the Vinnie Vincent Invasion. No reason
has been given for Strum leaving. Dana is known for hooking
up many a band with missing pieces to their puzzle. In fact,
Strum was the individual who got Bruce Kulick hooked up
with Kiss. According to sources, Vinnie Vincent has already
chosen Dana's replacement. We'll keep you posted on this
one

Hard Report 8/26/1988

Greetings to one and all from Metal Control Center deep
in the heart of Queens, New York. This is Sal " Earl Of
Earache" Treppiedi with this week's metal news from
around the world. This column will feature part three of
our interview with Schmier from Destruction. Let's get to
the news.

First off, we have a follow-up to an item the Earl reported in last week's column. Last week, we reported that Dana Strum,
bassist for the Vinnie Vincent Invasion, had left the band. This week we have further information regarding the band's
situation. Dana at that time had not left the band. This week we received information that Vinnie Vincent has parted ways
with the rest of the Invasion. According to a well placed source, the move was a mutual decision amongst Vincent, Dana Strum, Bobby Rock and Mark Slaughter. The band did complete their recent tour, which ended Friday, August 26th, with Dana Strum. The band will be holding a press conference on Monday, August 29th to clear the air on recent developments. The Hard Report will be talking to one or more of the members of the Invasion. We will have their comments next week

Hard Report 9/2/1988

The first pieces of definite news have come in from Chrysalis
Records regarding the recent developments in the Vinnie
Vincent Invasion camp. Vinnie has (see Sal's music news for
the other side's version of the story) left the band and will
commence auditions for the formation of a new Invasion. The
former members, Mark Slaughter, Dana Strum and Bobby
Rock, will continue with a new guitarist, and with a new
moniker and concept. Both bands will remain on the Chrysalis
roster and the label will continue to push the latest 12", " Love
Kills", which was just placed in medium rotation on MTV.

METAL MUSIC NEWS

We have more details for you regarding the Vinnie Vincent
Invasion situation. As many of you should already know, the
group has disbanded. Bassist Dana Strum, vocalist Mark
Slaughter and drummer Bobby Rock have split from Vinnie
Vincent. Dana Strum and Mark Slaughter (and possible Bobby
Rock) are going to stay together and form a new project.
Slaughter is currently writing new material. Meanwhile, Strum
will be producing a new album by the band Brunette. It will be
a soundtrack for an upcoming movie. Mark had this to say
regarding the situation, " From the beginning we were all lead
to believe that we would be a band. But, we were slowly
pushed into being sidemen. We believed in the songs, we
believed in the record and we played it out ' til the very end.
We left Vinnie on good terms and wish him the best of luck in
all he does in the future. We especially want to thank the fans
for standing behind us from day one and being so supportive."
There you have it. We hope to be able to get a quote or two
from Vinnie in the near future.

Victor S. Lentini, Chrysalis
Well here I am! Oh, you haven't missed me. Thanks a lot. First of all, I'd
like to thank Jeff Laufer, Greg Thompson, Kevin Sutter, Daniel Glass and
everyone at Chrysalis for offering me a great opportunity. I'd also like to
thank the staffs of The Hard Report, Album Network, FMQB, Gavin, and R&R
for their support. Thanks to radio programmers such as Lin Brehmer, Bill
Evans, Jonathan L., John Edwards, Ron Sorenson, Carter Alan, Phil Maicke,
John Amberg, Steven Page, Steve Masters, and Ken Martin for a great point
of reference. Alright enough already. So I'm leaving the left coast for my
sweet homeland, Chicago. My address and phone will be in my next
chapter.... Major Rockin' tune! I'm talking about " Under The Night Stars"
new from the Sea Hags. This kicks ass. It's on the " Nightmare On Elm Street
4" soundtrack. How's $ 13 million at the box office, the first week out! That's
like outta-the-box-office, man. Vinnie Vincent has the weapon with " Love
Kills" straight from Elm Street to your airwaves. Early believers include KJJO
and KNAC....

Love kills was never on rotation on MTV. It had a few plays of headbangers ball and the nightmare on Elm Street special but that was it. It did get played again on headbangers ball after Slaughter made it big .

And there you go with your FLAT OUT LIES yet again and nothing to back up your lies.

As Hard Report mentioned it being in Medium rotation and you are upset it called out your lies.

But we can look at Billboard too. Sept 10, 1988 when it gets added to rotation on MTV

Sept 17, 1988 Billboard on a story on "MTV Tries Dayparting", Vinnie Vincent's Love Kills is mentioned there as well.

You can lie all you want but the reality is in the various trade publications for anyone to see and verify.

You've been proven wrong on pretty much everything you "claim" yet you keep returning and spewing more BS and then whining when you are called out on your made up nonsense.

Also, it was a huge hit on Dial-MTV, which must have really upset you. Hitting number 1 numerous times.

Also, your over zealous, zealot like attitude is really getting tiresome for me and others here.

At the end of the day it's just a fact that the VVI, as great as the music was, was not successful, it was merely a bump in the road of rock and roll.

Airplay this and rotation that, it doesn't matter cause it didn't help!

Once again you are making alot of false claims! If you don't know what you are talking about, maybe don't post

You were the one who kept posting Gene and Paul booted Vinnie out of KISS and all the other nonsense up until recently. Thank goodness for Hirsh Gardner.

But seeing how you don't know even the basics, I don't you are qualified to say how successful VVI was since you are so uninformed. Leave it to people who know.

I just prefer the truth. Not a bunch of lies and bs from people who have no idea what they are talking about.

Again, you kept saying in 2022, Gene and Paul fired Vinnie. So you aren't exactly someone anyone should be believing for good accurate information about KISS or Vinnie.

ASG had next to no airplay. I lustend non stop to America's largest heavy metal radio station in 1988 to 1990 and I never once heard vvi played. I even requested many many times on the request shows and they didn't play. On commercial radio channels next to nothing or I expect non at all . No ads running on z rock either .

The list posted maybe paid ads or played once or twice on obscure channels in the middle of the night

They did a few promo spots on the radio days of gigs in certain towns . That was normal to go in local rock radio station day of a gig. There were two a
very painful onea thet was online a few years ago (not sure if still are ) where they asked for people to call in with questions for Vinnie and the band and no one did or in another case one call after a long wait

You are the same person who claimed Vinnie videos weren't in rotation on MTV etc aren't you? You are the same one who claimed to own a radio station and your dad worked at all these labels- right? But just last week you proved you didn't even know what Rotation on MTV meant and you also didn't seem to know what an "add" meant at radio".

VVA posted direct information from various trade publications proving all your claims as to airplay, video play and other things to be 100% incorrect, yet you keep coming back to post things that are in direct contradiction to what actually happened with the band.

This board sure needs VVA back! It was great to have someone posting what really happened back in the day.

If you had stepped up and done something, it probably would not have been an issue.

Did you see how that poster doesn't even know what MTV rotation means? Do you still believe all his claims that he owns a radio station and all the other just unbelievable claims?

The informed poster who actually brought a wealth of knowledge and facts is gone while the other "making up stuff" is still here. That should not be the case at all.

Hi Tee J,
I hope that you are well and happy brother. I agree that Sphinx, Vinnie Vincent Archives and Luxor all seem to be the same person posting under different aliases. No one else has ever been so focused on these same topics with such zeal.

Oh yes, the name calling because someone is a fan. I'm sure the moderator will be all over you for that.

If all of us could only have a life like yours. I can only dream!

teej was just talking about this place as a whole, nobody takes offence. It's nicer to be relaxed when reading and replying, not gritting your teeth in anger and jumping on every little thing. Reminds me of VVA.
