Vinnie Vincent Invasion - 02/22/87 **Great show **

Post by DaBonadono »

The following show was just recently posted on Youtube. The audio was recorded at the Selland Arena in Fresno, California on February 22, 1987 when Vinnie Vincent Invasion were the opening act for Iron Maiden. Vinnie is on fire!! This AUD recording sounds excellent!

Sweet Jesus!!!!!

Slow down Vinnie! Don't be nervous! :P

That's some good shit right there. Only listened to a few minutes but apart from the serious shredding, I'll note how good Mark sounded compared to the club gigs we've heard. Having that huge Maiden sound system with decent stage monitors, obviously Mark could hear himself and that resulted in him singing better.
Promises made, crying in vain, all empty. Never accepting the blame and not letting go of the shame. A river of tears, as months turn to years, all wasted. On someone not willing to change. Now only a shadow remains! :(

Mark sounds good but a lack of melody on back of streets. I don't feel he's actually part of the song just singing it without any really connection. But he was learning at the time

I think live a second guitar player or dare I say keyboards would have taken the songs over the edge

Interesting — I thought similarly though I was excited to hear it. I’m just so used to hearing R.F. singing it, it didn’t sound quite right. When he intros it and tells the crowd the Fresno is spelled “P A R T Y” he sounds just like Chris Rock to me, lol.

I am one of the guys who likes mark slaughter but I just felt that at the start he didn't have a lot of feeling in his voice but that's also not to be expected for a kid guitar player turned vocalist but I thought the asg performance on the ballads was truly excellent.

Weird thing is it doesn't appear that vv sang the opening verse on back on the streets like he did on the album unless I'm mistaken.

Wow Vinnie's on fire!!
Listening to this made me think its such a pity we don't have any PRO shot video VVI concerts. This one in particular would have been great to actually see them in all their glory. Does anyone know if any shows were shot but have just not surfaced?

Nothing was pro filmed as far as we know.

Maddeningly, an Alice Cooper show that Vinnie opened for was filmed, but it seems they did not capture the opening band.

I still believe that there is footage from that night.
You don't film the headline act cold. You practice on the opening band.

It's been quite well hidden if that is the case.

If they were a pro recording unit, which they would have been, they were probably only paid, engaged, to film Alice. Sigh.

Was it filmed pro for Iron Maiden? Most of the tapings back then were still shot on film so they wouldn't both shooting vvi as would be expensive to process and then they have to cut on a flat bed and would have a very expensive transfer to VHS.
There is a pro film film of kiss in Poole England with Vinnie in it the my friend has and it cost a fortune to process back then. He doesn't want to put it on YouTube though
