I applaud that he is taking steps .
SAVING HIMSELF FOR MEMPHIS ????
Let's hope.
It's been 30 years since he was really audible on a stage.
I'm sure he was feeling a lot of emotions...happiness, maybe nerves... who knows?
I've watched it a few times and my view was swayed a bit during the second time.
Vinnie hopped on that stage with 30 years of rust and started knocking it off. I'm sure ,even though there was a soundcheck, that it was difficult to hear onstage. Sound checks help a bit but the room becomes a different animal with people in it.
You can see and hear that he was playing in a manner to hear himself instead of actually playing WITH the band.
That took some guts and it looks like everyone had a good time.
I do believe that if he would've let a few flurries burst outta that Carvin, Memphis would have sold out both nights by week's end.
Let's look forward to Memphis.
A confident Vinnie and HIS rig with a rehearsed band.

I'll admit when I first seen him playing, a part of me was like whaaa? I had expected a bit more. But then I got to thinking.
I believe he is saving his absolute best for
Graceland.
No sense in giving it all away at that pre party.
I am sure if he truly felt he was unable to play anymore (something that many people think), Graceland wouldn't be happening. Period.
Let's hope for the best :) looking forward to it!

It was interesting to see him tune his guitar, with an unlocked nut.
His rythm parts were good I think.
The big question is his ability to play fast solos. His knowledge of music should be here still, and his pulsating licks should belong to measle memory.
Vinnie should talk about all that, and explain things he did in the eighties. Metal Tech II, the return of VV.

That is WAAAAY more than he was doing at the Konventions 20 years ago, this is his first proper stage playing since 88 and was cool to see.

He has the trademark Vinnie moves and yeah, he didn't do crazy stuff but it was funny to see him messing around in between songs and stuff.

He was clearly having a great time too.

Bring on Graceland, let's see what this ship can do!

He looked pretty nervous tbh, which is understandable.
Promises made, crying in vain, all empty. Never accepting the blame and not letting go of the shame. A river of tears, as months turn to years, all wasted. On someone not willing to change. Now only a shadow remains! :(

Can i ask where this idea that Vinnie can't shred anymore came from? I've heard people saying it for years. I can't imagine him losing the ability to play unless he's got chronic arthritis or lost a finger or something

It's only an idea to explain his previous long absence.

Nobody knew what he was doing at all, and wondered if he could still even play.

Of course he can play, he's not gonna lose the ability to play guitar, but the stuff he was doing in the 80's? Could he still do that? What is his practice regime? Would be good to know that now that he's back and preparing for Graceland. Like, what is the game plan to be ready for the show?

That would be cool.

Vinnie has said VERY CLEARLY that there are things that he cannot do anymore because of age, etc...
His playing has evolved into something different but still recognizable.

I thought Vinnie looked good in the video

Jason Becker once said he reckons it would only take him a few months to get back to his old level if he were cured..

Vinnie will be fine :)

Don’t get your hopes up that Vinnie will be shredding in Memphis.
He looks very ‘challenged’ when playing guitar. Sorry.

He seems to like the non-fine tuner Floyd Rose trems. I remember a black Charvel being sold at the auction with one and it looks like the Carvin has been retrofitted with one, as I'm pretty certain that the Carvin models he's played in the past have (IIRC) had the more modern type. If you look closely, you can even see the route for the newer type on the top.

I thought he sounded good. Lick it Up was pretty much like the record. He didn't seem all that rehearsed with the band. Looks like it was more of a fun type of thing. Looking forward to seeing footage of the Memphis show.

Vinnie has always played the original, original non fine tuning (NFT) Floyd. Players like Vinnie and Brad Gillis kept using their NFT Floyds long after they came out with fine tuners.

They make NFT Floyds now, more recently, but people usually put them on guitars without locknuts, that usually use locking tuners, like the Guthrie Charvel model.

None of what you saw was rehearsed, so it still remains to be seen what Vinnie can do at his upcoming shows, now in February.

I really enjoyed this and it was great to see and hear Vinnie playing again. He seemed to enjoy it and he played one more song than he was contracted to play.
Vinnie who?
