Regarding the inlays, this particular guitar had the standard Shark Fins.

The next photo shows the Fret Board being glued/clamped to the neck blank.

This view is showing me checking the radii at fret 1 on the neck after final carving.
Image

Next, final check by the heel at fret 15. Note the back view photo of the Jackson neck and body used for reference.

Last, Wings glued to Neck and fit to Case.

Coming up next time final routing on the mill for PickUps, Trem slot and electronics cavity.

Just Thinking. The Wolfi photos above that show the Mahogany with Maple neck and headstock Would make a very cool guitar.
Could call it the MahogaMaple Model.

It is a great idea but I think Wolfi wants to get the pink one for a nice Vinnie collection.
The MahogaMaple would be a cool project down the road.

I was thinking about the MahogaMaple Model for another guitar. Maybe with all gold hardware too.
Also with gold fret wire and gold Mother of Pearl inlays. Kind of like Vinnie #4 at 2011 NAMM.

A bit more progress for Wolfi today . . .

Been milling out cavities on the RR. A little bit more to go on the backside and I'll be prepping for paint.
I did get the tone cavity milled out too but I took the photo before hand.

Yeah like it. That mahogany is going to give a touch of les paul I bet. I know bernie Rico's favourite wood combo was mahogany with maple neck. Classic but also dynamic. All the mason bernards were mahogany / maple.

I'm back! However a little behind schedule. Here is a new photo of the Grain Fill operation.
I did this yesterday and let it dry overnight and will be sanding it down today, March 12 in my world.
All of the Mahogany has been coated and I'll post a shot of it again after sanding.
Next up then is priming the entire guitar, doing some touchup sanding, maybe another coat of primer
and then go for painting.

The not so fun part of guitar building I can imagine.

This is going to be a stellar instrument, you can just tell.

Actually Vic I kind of enjoy doing this as it's the last step before priming and painting.
It's only really Mahogany with such an open grain that requires this step. This water based
filler is much easier to work with and is much better than an oil based variety that I used
to use. This grain filler I can let dry overnight where as the other filler took several days
and it always seemed to stay kind of gooey when sanding
Once I get the guitar primed I can see where any little nicks and scratches are and then I
get to use a little automotive "spot putty" for fine sanding before the real fun stuff starts.
The arizona sun helps out too. I can rotate and inspect the body in the sun and see
where there may be low spots etc that need a bit of putty.

Thanks Mickey. And remember too the big guitar companies now build almost everything if not all of the guitar parts by computer machinery. I'm quite a bit more old style in my building. Hand made if you will. It's more of an artistic endeavor and the spirit of the builder is that extra guitar part that the big guys are missing. My opinion anyway. Thanks again.

I will definitely keep the ball rolling here. I'm just about ready, in fact tomorrow, I'll be spraying the
first coat/s of primer on the guitar which will tell me how much more surface prep I'll be doing. I'l be
taking photos too and posting them here.

Shramiac - Yeah, I'm still waiting for the Floyd Trem to get here so I can use it for the correct dimensions.
It's been on order for a couple of months now.
