Mick Mars & the upside down drum kit 1974

Testing out the Upside Down Drum Rig: Aug '74

Here's David Day, Mick Mars (wearing the blue leather jacket that I loaned him), Jack Valentine, & Harry Clay testing out the original Whitehorse upside-down drum platform for a promo shot in our Huntington Beach garage in Aug 1974.

Oh wow, I never knew any of this and straight up I could see that when Mick joined the Crue that this is where the idea would have come from.

I'm not versed on upside drummers to begin with, other than Tommy Lee, so to see these guys doing it in 1974, with a setup they jerry rigged themselves! Wow, you gotta have some trust in that thing.

I would like some decent $$$ and engineering behind it if I was going to strap myself in, ha ha.
