Extreme

Post by Genebaby »

The Van Halen thread as reminded me how much I like Extreme. Mainly Pornograffit and 3 Sides.....

Nuno is a rhythm monster!!!!! If I could play Decadence Dance I would be a happy man. He reminds me of Randy Rhoads on that song, very interesting and tasty rhythm playing.

I saw them live on the 3 Sides.... tour in 93, an album I really liked. I was pissed off years late when I found the cassette version had an extra song, which couldn't fit on the CD. Still haven't heard it.

I lost interest in them after that and I think I have their new one somewhere but it just isn't the same.

It's interesting for someone like Nuno to do the hired gun thing, but playing a show like that is a good gig.

Rafael from Paul Stanley's solo band of a few years ago and the Rock Star TV show did the same for Pink and Christina Auguilera, but he's not as well known as Nuno and hasn't had a big band in his own right like Nuno did.

It is a little sad as Nuno wouldn't be doing it if Extreme or his solo stuff was successful but I wouldn't say no to the gig.

I had to play "Crave" at my Bass player's wedding 11 years back. He and his wife LOVED that song and the album Schizophonic that it was on! I HATED it! Still do to this day!Never liked his solo work either. I think he was a little more "Extreme like" on some of the Morning Widows stuff but I've never really heard it. When I heard he did an album with Perry Farrel I nearly barfed. He can sing for sh*t!!!! Hate Jane's Addiction too!. Extreme are very talented guys.......but I have to be in the right mood to listen to them????
Promises made, crying in vain, all empty. Never accepting the blame and not letting go of the shame. A river of tears, as months turn to years, all wasted. On someone not willing to change. Now only a shadow remains! :(

Waiting For The Punchline is an album I didn't get into, I have it somewhere though. Something happened and I just never really listened to it, that I remember.

Nuno is indeed married to Suze of the Baby Animals, who I saw live many times, and I even got my pic taken with her at one show and then got her to sign it a few weeks later. This was in the old days of getting photos developed mind you!!

It was at a later Baby Animals show that I met Nuno as well. He was with his wife, something I hadn't thought of as I didn't have anything to sign, so I got him to sign my ticket. As with a lot of people, he's quite short in real life!!

I'll have to get that pic of me and Suze scanned in, god I was young back then. Long hair too.

"Waiting For The Punchline" is my favorite Extreme album(and song). Nuno's single coil hollow tone on that album is so mean and nasty. This album spits at you from every angle and contains their stankiest FUNK grooves. The title of the album is brilliant and ironic because one doesn't have to wait for the punch because your getting aurally slammed by the entire band from the very first note.

Kudos to our buddy Stephen Davies for designing those cool guitars therefore helping Nuno with the inspiration to create those hellish riffs and tones.

..if that was the 'hidden' track at the end of the album, yes, that was my fav too.
ps....can't stand the hidden track thing, so glad when that fad died off.
