Ronald Belford “Bon” Scott, born in Scotland in 1946, moved to Western Australia at the age of 10 and spent the coming years as a “problem child;” having numerous run-ins with the law. Showing an aptitude for music and lyric writing, Scott’s fortunes would change for the better when a former band mate introduced him to the members of AC/DC in 1974.

The next six years would provide a meteoric rise for Scott and company as AC/DC built a legendary reputation first in Australia, with the debut of High Voltage in 1975, and then on to superstardom by the time of 1979’s Highway to Hell.

This week on the Decibel Geek Podcast, hosts Aaron and Chris share the story of Bon Scott and spin some of there favorite early-era AC/DC tracks. Numerous facts about the six Bon Scott era albums are shared along with some anecdotes from the band’s early years. It’s an audio tribute to a rising rock star that was gone too soon.

7 million for dirty deeds?? 20 million for back in black? I had no idea they were THAT big. My guess would have been triple platinum for back in black.

Back In Black was massive, way bigger than anything Kiss put out. It's up there in the sales race. Haven't liked much they have done for over 20 years though.

They still do massive tours and are great to see lives but I prefer the old stuff.

Great job on the Podcast as always!

Yeah, Back in Black is up there with the biggest selling albums ever (of any genre). But I still love the old stuff with Bon better. It had more personality with him in my opinion.

Thanks for the kind words Vic!

Bon did have a way with the lyrics.

Back In Black has to be the best comeback album after losing a vocalist ever. It's a hard change to make, a lot of bands tried and failed. To have even more success than before is an amazing feat.

first AC DC I had was the white one after Back in Black. I used to like a tune called Nervous Shakedown. I think the Bon Scott stuff was great. I am not an expert but loved Jailbreak and some of Highway to Hell.

That was Flick Of The Switch. Nervous Shakedown was a pretty cool song. By 1985 they had lost their way a bit with Fly On The Wall, though they toured, and toured and toured still.
