Def Leppard - High n' Dry

Post by Warrior »

Is anyone else familar with this over looked Heavy Metal Album released in 1981 ?.
This changed the type of music I listened to forever.
This would be in my top 5 favourite albums of all time.
Does anyone else appreciate this masterpiece?.
Their first album On Through The Night was another good album.

High n' Dry is a good album. I do prefer Pyromania and Hysteria though.

I think pyromania is an influence on lick it up album in a small way. I think Eric's drums sound from Killers and creatures changed on lick it up to more of the pyromania sound. for sure vv was influenced from def lep on the vvi stuff.

I totally agree with you. Pete totally rocked and ruled. If he had of kept his drinking under control we might have had more solid rock tunes to listen too.
I still listen and enjoy some of their other albums but this is by far my favourite.

I havent listened to this in ages but I really did love this album.
Spent alot of time trying to learn these songs on guitar.
This one and Pyro are probably their best 2 albums.
I had(have) the TAB book which covered both of those albums.
Heaps of mistakes in it, but at least it showed you knew something if you could spot those mistakes.
Hysteria was good in the day but a little too poppy sounding now for my old ears.

I've got an LP version where the last track, No no no (awesome song). finishes on the inside circle of the album and continues going NO, NO,NO, NO,NO, NO,NO, NO,NO, NO,NO, NO,NO, NO,NO, NO,NO, NO,NO, NO,NO, NO,NO, NO,NO, NO, forever if you can stop the needle auto returning.
Pretty clever i thought ;)

yeah vv is super influenced by D.L. Funny he never mentioned it. I think Gary Moore and Van Halen were also influences from the 80s.

i think also the harmony backing vocals in the D.L. choruses are inspired for VVI.

I got Jesus in my fax machine. I saw Ho Chi Minh down @ Burger King. I dated Vinnie Vincent as a Drag Queen. I still don't understand a f**kin' thing.
I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass and I'm all out of bubble gum.
