Great bands that are underknown and highly rated!

Post by Rexx »

Hoping we can share some of our favorite bands that are highly rated yet not well known.

Angel - USA Glam metal from the '70s. I got into this band shortly after getting into Kiss.

Circus Maximus - Norwegian prog metal (If you like Dream Theater these guys are awesome)

Crimson Glory - USA pioneers of prog metal

Glory - Sweden melodic rock, Jan Granwick is a pretty slick guitarist, great vocals as well.

Masquerade - Sweden melodic rock, Thomas G.son - sick guitar playing - when I first heard this band I thought they sounded a lot like Norway's T.N.T. Great vocals.

Max Webster - Canada Prog rock, if you never heard them you deserve a listen.

Pagan's Mind - Norwegian prog rock. Simply a great band, highly recommended!

Riot - USA hard rock. Many do know this band but they really never received the success they deserved.

Stryper - USA hard rock. Don't let their christian band label fool you, these guys are a great band.

T.N.T. - Norwegian melodic hard rock. I loved the Tony Harnell era of this band. Ronni Le Tekro is an insanely talented guitarist.

Westworld - USA melodic hard rock super group. Comprised of guitarist Mark Reale (RIP) of Riot, vocalist Tony Harnell of T.N.T., bassist Bruno Ravel of Danger Danger, and drummer John O'Reilly of Rainbow, Trans Siberian Orchestra.

Yes indeed!

I'd add Symphony X to the list. Yngwie meets Dream Theater!!! Russel Allen is a very powerful singer, sings a little too much in his gruff voice (no, not a death metal voice) but has a beautiful clean voice when he needs.
And Michael Romeo is very, very good! Clean & tasty too!!! No doubt Yngwie inspired but I rather listen to him than Yngwie!

Russel Allen can sound exactly like Ronnie James Dio (RIP)
I seen them live but didn't really know much of their material.

for Mark Slaughter fans he was friends with the Apocrypha guys and was at one time to join the band just before he joined VVI. Also he played with most of the players in other bands including bassist Al Rumley.

Man that was bad PW!!!

Kotzen stuff is brilliant! The 2 Mr Big albums he did suck though! They just don't sound right!

And for all his amazingness as a player, don't leave your gf alone with him!!!!

I'm sure most of these bands are known by you all but didn't get the attention they deserved I.M.O.

Forbidden

Prong

Mordred

Death Angel

I am sure there are many more in my old man brain but I love these bands. Glad to see some of them still active

The Prong album Beg To Differ is still one of my favorites. I am glad Tommy Victor brought Prong back. He has been playing in Ministry and for Danzig I think in the recent years..

Anyone remember Sacred Reich ???

XYZ, These guys were early users of Steinberger GM series guitars with transtrem II. the different tunings you can have are:
B, C, D [E] F#, G
I recent bought a Steinberger GM4TA and totally dig the transposing or bending chords in pitch
