Def Leppard

Post by warmachine:D »

Love every song on every album from High N' Dry until Adrenalize. I still love everything after that, but it's just not the same without Steve Clark.
I think that's the reason I don't pay much attention to any of their other albums- Without his songwriting contributions Def Lep just isn't the same. Steve came up with the best riffs.
High N' Dry is, imo, one of the best songs ever written. And, the vocals/harmonies/ect on Hysteria are amazing.
Hysteria is probably my favorite album ever, as of recently.
And for the record Def Leppard is my favoritest band ever.
(By the way, I really dislike Phil Collen's Jackson Dinky whatever -.- A bit odd sounding. Ahem. But really- they're just hideous. Don't like body or headstock at all.)
Image

Also, Sav, Joe, Rick, and Phil weren't/aren't so bad looking. ;) :s
Anyways, I'm gonna see them in August, and I Absolutely. Can. Not. Wait. :D

I love Hysteria, Pyro and HighnDry.
Anything after i couldn't get into......targeted the youth/pop culture imo.
You can hear the progression of HnD -> Pyro -> Hysteria -> Adrenalize...
The production/polishing got more and more until Hysteria where i think they peaked, and the rest bombed.

They were so good as hard raw rockers
No No No - is absolute favourite !
I wish they kept more of that in their recent albums

Also, saw em in concert in Syd for the Adrenalize tour......in the round.
Only 1 person in front of me.
Yelling at em to throw me a pic when it was over.......dead set he looked right at me and dropped it at his feet! Dickhead (can't remember which one it was though)

Geeze i'm being negative!
Yes, i'm a fan, just had a bad experience :D

...speaking of the raw sound.
I've got a bootleg live album which sounds like it was in a school hall.
Called "Two Arms to Arms" so cruel ;)
'Get your rocks off' on that LP is killer !

Yeah, they are great. I'm debating on whether to seem them again on their upcoming Aussie tour. I saw them last time, it was good.

Heysteria is the peak for sure, fantastic album.

I love the Jackson Phil Collen model. I could do without the electronics for the special pickup he uses and just some dot markers would finish it off for me. I don't like plain boards.

Well you are the administrator!!! If you want to spruce................oh you mean the guitar fingerboard! :P :P :P

I quite like plain maple finger fingerboards, especially with a little birdseye! But then I suppose they wouldn't be that plain if filled with birdseye!

Never really listened to Leppard much! Couldn't stand that album from 87/88 that had all the hits. Poor some Sugar and Love Bites etc.....urgh!!!! I saw Lets get Rocked vid at lunchtime today! What a crap song! I loved Me and My Wine vid (RIP Rick Allen's arm!) when they were still a NWBHM band. My eldset bro has the 1st couple of albums but I wouldn't have heard them in over 20 years! All that Mutt Lange "super-layering studio trickery" annoyed the crap out of me! BUT I'm sure they'd be good live! Not a big fan of Joe Elliott's voice either! Collen is a nice player too! Steve was good but I think Collen is better. And I loved Viv Campbell growing up!

But in my defense I was/am a Maiden fan. There was a little rivalry there! (Maiden after 30 years are now clear winners ;) ) Same thing with Metallica/Megadeth ! I LOVE Megadeth and couldn't (still can't) stand Metallica!

But atleast VV knew the limits I think o.O

From my head to my feet yeah"????
come on the lyrics are so blatant, atleast be subtle

The sustainer system is killer on the Jackson PC1. Most probably a Fernandes system in it. They were the the original guys to start this.

I would prefer the guitar with just two humbuckers and some fret markers. Very similar to one of my guitars.

One "funny" story :
Every time I listened to Def Leppard I thought what a slow drumming. And after years I heard that the drummer lost an arm and still play in the band. Holy shit I thought... Great that the band used him as the drummer and don't replaiced him with another.

Have seen Def L a few times live - great band - never understood the 'glam' tag some American mags gave them though - they were never really a 'pretty' band.

I've seen them twice before (both times here in Oz) and am going to catch them again later in the year. I love me some 80's metal shlock anytime and couldn't pass up the chance to see them again :)

I'm sure Dino was joking.

Back in the day I religously bought Mad Magazine and I remember there was a little comic in the page border that showed the Leps on stage with Joe pointing or something and the caption was: Joe Elliot singles out the one person in the world who has not bought a copy of Hysteria.

Something to that effect. They were so massive you had no hope of not knowing them, even in Australia where the general public can remain insulated from what is big on the US metal scene.

The general public (not us metallers) did not know about Aerosmith being back until Pump, nor Motley Crue until Dr. Feelgood and Def Leppard was with Hysteria, though that one took a while to get going.

I remember getting Hysteria and then nothing. One other dude I didn't know at school had a reference to them on his school bag. Then all hell broke loose!

That is why I laughed so hard the first time I read his comment and also why I capitalized the word "INTRODUCE".
I believe there are much better songs on the first three albums.
