Eric Carr's The Elder Costume

Post by TheGoodDr »

After months of paying it off and having some issues with getting it passed through Customs, Eric Carr's (music from) The Elder costume finally arrived today! :) This, by far, is the crown jewel of pretty much everything that I own. I feel incredibly lucky to have been given the opportunity to buy it.

And I'd thought I'd share the Bruce Kulick Crazy NIghts Costume that I managed to piece together over a period of a year or so....

EXCELLENT!!!!

What were the custom's problems? Want to charge you import duty on a collectible?

That's exactly what they did :( Which was 10% on top of the 10% I already had to pay for the GST. Effectively I had to pay 20% more just to get it cleared through Customs for delivery.....and now I have to write to FedEx, explaining to them why they classified it incorrectly to try and get my money back!

The wear at the bottom is from the guitar constantly rubbing on it. Left shoulder shows similar wear from the guitar strap. The auction tag is still attached. I think it was attached to one of the pocket zippers and I zipped it in so it would not get torn or lost.

I'll consider. I'm not looking to brag or boast. But I am pretty sure TheGoodDr has been wondering who in the hell has the jacket, just as I've been wondering up until now who had the shirt & pants. It's a crying shame they split all the piece of these costumes up. As we all know, there is exactly ONE and ONLY one of each of these things. And now they've gone all over the world to anonymous collectors. So when I ran across TheGoodDr's photo, I wanted to respond because at the very least, I think it is important for us fans to know who has each other's items. Even if both sides today want to keep their pieces for now, we never know what the future will bring.

I talk to Bruce all the time as I manage the picks section on his website at his request. He knows (or did at one time, may have forgotten?) I have several pieces. For some of them he signed special photos I can frame up with them. As for seeing them, I actually displayed them one time many years ago at a KISS Expo where he was the special guest. He did get a kick out seeing them.

Cool! I designed these picks for Bruce way back in '96... he referred to them as "Monster" picks. No payment but he sent me a cassette copy of COS before the official release.

Awesome! I still have one of the giant picks he sent me. He contacted me in Sept. '96 about a cartoon style pick and I got to pick his brain about all kinds of Kiss related stuff. :)

I'm not sure if Bruce was just jerking my chain, but he said at one point way before the reunion that Gene and Paul actually discussed the possibility of using the Sorcerer and Hawk designs I drew for him and Eric (the gold diamond shapes the kid is wearing on 1994's Kiss My Ass are exactly like the Sorcerer design I did for Bruce in 1992). I asked him if my designs were an influence on the boy at the table's makeup and he chuckled and said "it's very possible". The Hawk makeup I designed was somewhat similar to the wrestler Ultimate Warrior's makeup but black and silver and more "bird like".

I asked him what Vinnie was like and he just gave the short answer of not really talking to him much but a talented guy with issues (this was waaay before I knew how the real Cusano was). This was also a couple of weeks before I saw the reunion show in Charlotte so I asked if Ace and Peter would be playing on any 80's Kiss songs. He laughed and said "I'm not so sure those guys could pull that off."

He would also forget about the three hour west coast/east coast time difference and end up calling me after midnight (I was living with my folks at the time haha). My mom flipped out when I told her I was talking to a "KISS guy". :)

Yes, very cool Kev. You gotta be careful what you submit to the Kiss machine, things tend to get "recycled" much to the surprise of the person who submitted something.

Yeah flipping out in a good way! :) She eventually talked to Bruce herself when he called and I was at work... saying he was really nice to her haha. Kinda odd when a guy who only existed in magazines, MTV, etc. when you were a kid ends up having a casual phone conversation with your mom... :)

To be honest, I never felt like Bruce was that happy with the pick art. I know I wasn't very happy with it and could've made it look a lot cooler but he insisted on them being simple and kept referencing Rick Nielsen's guitar picks:

Bruce also said that Eric Carr really loved my artwork which was cool for me as I never got to meet him. The four giant caricatures I drew for the HITS tour I gave to Paul and Bruce. Of course the following year Eric was gone.

Yeah, saw this a little while ago.....It's been for sale for a few weeks now. If I didn't have the Elder jumpsuit already I would have been all over this jacket in a shot.

I have managed to track down one of Eric's Elder costume gloves (thanks to one of the forum members here) however I've not been able to work out a deal with the owner that results in the glove coming my way :( He's super keen to acquire Vinnie's COTN vest, however I just can't bring myself to part with it. As much as I loathe Vinnie these days, the Ankh Warrior was an awesome character design and I consider myself incredibly lucky to have a piece of his costume in my home :)

Since no one has said it and it is the gentlemanly thing to do,
I CALL DIBS ON THE VV COTN VEST WHEN YOU DECIDE TO GET RID OF IT.
Vinnie would want The Poserboy to have his vest. :D :D :D :D
