I've never seen this Vinnie interview from '88...

Post by PinkWiz »

He talks a bit about Treasure, Tears and possibly writing with Peter Criss(?)... never heard that one before! He also says he "doesn't consider himself a songwriter"??? wtf? He acts a little drunk in this vid to me so maybe that explains it... sorry if this has already been posted.

I had that poster behind Vinnie. Vinnie signed his names across the center of the "V" VERY BIG.
It got damaged to the point of not saving it. STUPID YOUTH.
I wish I still had it.
I have the memory of getting it signed. I guess that is what matters most.

Yep as great as the 80's were many good posters met their maker because of Blu tac or tape!

I have never seen that interview. He sounds confident yet humble and appreciative. He feet seem firmly planted in reality here but it makes you wonder what happened to him to mutate into what he has become. Such a fucking waste of talent!

Excellent interview! Where are the 2 albums Vinnie??????

Did he live in his current abode back then?
Promises made, crying in vain, all empty. Never accepting the blame and not letting go of the shame. A river of tears, as months turn to years, all wasted. On someone not willing to change. Now only a shadow remains! :(

He always sounds like his feet are on the ground but during that time not many people would agree that have spoken out . I can not hear it? Does he say he has two more albums coming. ?

That poster was also the print ad. Did it say 'this invasion takes no prisoners' ? I think the first album tag line was 'this is not music this is an invasion'.

He lived in los Angeles in a condo with his wife and kids back then. According to Felix he moved to Nashville around 91 or 92 to work with him. I believe his wife and kids must have gone back to new England. must have been a rough time.

Yeah but I think the 90's were particularly bad for Vinnie more so than the 80's where he tasted success & fame...the 90's offered him a divorce, a murdered ex-wife, estrangement from his daughters, a second fall out with kiss, a failed archives box set resulting in a massive loss of fans, failed law suit against kiss, bankruptcy even or was that later?

finally heard it. good interview. Vinnie is calm and good. Shame it all went wrong after, i see what kev means.. I would love to know what happened with love kills. it clearly was not the theme tune. It must have been a last minute change. The two albums being the only question mark.

3 weeks before the band split. VV talking about the next album already not long after ASG had been released shows to me he was thinking of booting the band. Maybe Spyder could have done it. lol

yeah it's weird that he seems so happy here but you know that there was already tension seeing that VVI broke up 3 weeks later. wonder if he's just faking it here... or maybe the contents in that cup are keeping him in a good mood? 8)

i think you can read between the lines. he is already talking of the next album even though ASG hasn't been out too long. I would say he knows its all about to end with the current members. To be honest its a fact that Dana was recurting a new band while they were on that tour as he asked Traci Guns to join his band while they were opening up for VV.

When I got into the VVI I didn't care for Dana that much either. Then I started to listen to a little bit of Slaughter and I liked him alright in that band. Then I just wanted to listen to VVI again and realized that I didn't care for Dana. I think Dana was not very polite a lot of times, but he seemed to work well as a musician in the band. And in the early days him and Vinnie, they seemed to have a good chemistry then. But I think Dana had the kind of ego that could have been conflicting.

Mind you this is all coming from the perspective of someone who was not growing up in the 80s. Its all looking back at history for me, so I could be completely off here.

For us fans that were fans in the 80's there isn't much to research now unless you can get to a close source from inside the kiss or VVI camp for old info that has been kept under lock & key for 20+ years... We know everything there is to know or "available" to know :)

I always said Vinnie Vincent Invasion should have been only about Vinnie. Somewhere down the line the other members started to have some sort of control enough that when they left it was the end of the band (at least the label saw it that way). When band members left Yngwie in the 80s no one cared.. he just got new ones. Should have been the same for vv but now I know why things didn't continue. But still its a shame that we even have to talk about Dana.
Vinnie got the deal from him and Roberts work and if anything Robert was more the person who clinched the record deal (not Dana like Dana thinks).
I would loved to have seen VV hire a new band and continue touring for ASG but I didn't know just how bad a rep vv was getting, you heard it even back in the 80s but not the extent of it. As for Dana he can not talk about 'burnin' bridges' himself.

Absolutely right. :D I agree with this statement completely! I don't usually compare artists, but Yngwie and Vinnie are similar in that they both were influenced by the classical players. Paganini I think was the name of the violinist that Yngwie really was into, and I read or heard or saw an interview that Vinnie said the same. I am glad that Vinnie didn't take his interest in Paganini so much like Yngwie did. Yngwie did the Concerto thing and completely went that classical route. Which worked for him, but Vinnie kept with the rock and metal scene. He had elements of that in it, but kept his work pure. :D And I completely respect that. I wish that the VVI could have been more based around Vinnie also, because he was more than just a band player. :)

yes! some "bands" are meant to be based around one member... and that's why I could never in a million years figure out why vinnie just didn't handle all the lead vocals himself. he was just settin himself up for failure when the record company started focusing on the pretty boy lead singer... especially considering the fact that vinnie had/has a killer singing voice. as much as i love both VVI albums, once i heard vinnie singing on the demos (baby-o in particular) it kind of lessens roberts and marks contributions for me... vinnie's voice has an edginess that those two could never duplicate.

Vinnie really needed to be on a guitar specialist label where they let him do wanted. Taking a big contract with chrysalis you got to accept the more Money the label gives you the more control they want. Taking less money with more control usually is the best option.

Exactly. Conceptually Vinnie achieved his vision for how the first VVI album should look & sound. By the time the tour commenced he had a new lead singer?!! WTF! By the second album Chrysalis had taken control and Vinnie had no hope at all to stop what would eventually happen... The rest is history :!: Record moguls make me sick :? Tie wearing dickheads that wouldn't know an A string from a G string  They call the shots in the end & if you are a struggling artist/s forget it...

If only Vinnie could have squeezed out a third record...it may have been enough to build momentum for another phase of his career.. The VVI/Chrysalis bust up really killed him in the end... Such a shame... If I could I would finance his return to music :D

It's not a lack of funds that has stopped Vinnie from getting back into the music scene all these years, save your $$$ BB, Vinnie doesn't need them.

Vinnie's singing voice is amazing. I really really love it. And I know he always said he never thought of himself as a singer, but a singer he was and could have been. He could have been on a more guitar focused label like doublev2 said, and then he could have had a singer, one more like Robert without so much of the image, and then Vinnie could have done the guitar work and sung on occasion. And he could have been the main star. He could have built up his own image however he wanted and pushed himself more as the main lead guy. Because that I believe was what he really wanted, since he named the VVI after himself and all. He was the star until the record people intervened and started to wave something infront of Mark's face to stoke his ego... :( Which Mark was a talented singer, but Vinnie was a much MORE talented singer and guitarist. :D
