SOME MEMORIES FROM BACK IN THE DAY

Post by FREDDYB3 »

A while back someone with the screen name kirky666 (didn't want to give his real first name)
messaged me and ask me if I could upload some pics/scans of any ticket stubs I had from the
4 VVI shows I had attended from '86-88. I told him I would as soon as I got a chance. Sorry it has taken me so long but here they are. I also added a few other pages from the book that were relevant to the time and those
particular shows. The things that are missing from each collection of memorabilia are :

1) actual pics from the Hammerjacks show (the club did not allow cameras)
2) the ticket stub from the Bayou, Wash, D.C show (paid at the door, no stub)

Thanks, glad you enjoyed them gonnarock.... Wish I had the time and energy to upload the entire scrapbook.
All 4 members signed the inside cover of it for me. Unfortunately, it's just too much stuff to scan and upload all at one time. It's been so long since kirky666 asked me to do it, I wonder if he even still visits here to see it ??

No problem Vic....always glad to share...... I have all the old fan club stuff as well.

it was Paul Stanley's. Either his guitar had problems or didn't show up because of that huge snow storm. We are not sure.

Great pics. Too bad they weren't able to parlay that opening spot on Alice's tour into greater success...but obviously the whole Robert/Mark situation kinda killed the marketing for VVI.

Are there any bootlegs of the Invasion from that tour? Audio would be great. Video would be the bees knees.

What's up erg2..... The only video of VVI that I know of are the 86 N.Y show and the Toronto show from 88.(both bootlegs/audience shot) I do know that Alice Cooper shows were pro-shot while VVI was on the tour with them and I believe Maiden shows were also pro-shot while VVI was with them. It's hard to imagine that nobody shot the opening act during any of those shows. Also, Hammerjacks routinely filmed all of their shows with in-house video and I am sure other clubs that VVI played at did as well. I am surprised that nothing has surfaced to this point.

It is surprising that after all this time that no pro shot footage has surfaced. I guess we can still hope it will one day. Someone will open a box and see a tape that says VVI on it, and it will finally get into circulation.

It's too bad that is not a lesson Vinnie learned from his Kiss days, to video record things for study and the future. Kiss have footage going WAY back.

KISS always recorded everything. I always found that so intriguing about them, and that added with the philosophy that it was more for themselves rather than for the fans, because they would have had no way of knowing how successful they would become. Its almost likening it to a professional boxer who reviews his own matches and tries to look for errors or ways to improve. :D

My dad owned a live venue in late 70s through to mid 80s . Usually bands had contracts to say that the venue could not record or film them, however he did. But you can imagine that most club owners will have so much footage on vhs tape that its either gone or just sitting in storage somewhere . Freddy my dad knows the old owner of hammerjacks , maybe i can ask him ?

I've seen the audience shot stuff. A lot of it is pretty rough and the sound is gosh-awful. I was talking about the lack of any known pro-shot stuff...or possibly pro-shot stuff that is carefully traded in secret circles.

Wouldn't it be unbelievable if this board were responsible for uncovering some never-before-seen VVI concert video? That would certainly steam Vinnie's lobster!

oh, yeah. that costs a lot so i doubt VV had it on the ASG tour , especially playing for 500 people at $5 each.

I believe some of the Alice Cooper shows were pro-recorded including VVI . I was in touch with a guy who says he has some, but I suspect Alice himself has them locked away in his archives if he paid for it.

Dino,

The guy who owned Hammerjacks was Louie Principato (spelling unsure, but that's close)
My ex-wife tended bar there for 2 years.

The site of the original Hammerjacks was forced to move when Baltimore built it's new football
stadium. The club had already started changing from a rock club into a hip-hop club before the move.
After the 1st move it changed completely and the customer base changed as well. Obviously. LOL
I think the club moved 1 more time after that and I don't believe that Louie owned it the entire time.

I remember when the old building was closing down, they allowed people to go thru and take things that were there. I remember a friend of mine walking into the DJ's room and the floor was littered with band press kits and memorabilia. The video equipment was located in a booth right next to the sound board.
On the 2nd level facing the stage.

The club fed the signal to T.V's all throughout the "Live Side's" 2 levels.
When ever they had paid concerts, they would close the doors between the center of the club.
creating 2 levels of the "Live Side" and 2 levels of a "Club Side".
It would be hard to know if they were actually recording the show, but I know for a fact
that other shows from there have surfaced since then. I seriously doubt Louie himself
would have much if any video from there...but it's possible I suppose.

Funny story about the "Live Side" / "Club Side" situation.
When Gary Moore played there, he became highly irritated on multiple occasions
during his performance. He stopped the show a couple of times. The last time
he stopped the show was when he was attempting to do a very soft guitar intro to
"Parisienne Walkways ". He was being literally drowned out by thumping bass
from the dance music pumping next door in the "Club Side".

After leaving the stage and having a heated exchange with the guys in the DJ booth,
he returned to the stage went to the microphone and said "If I have any friends in the building
tonight, meet me out back after the show because the big guy back there just threaten to kick my ass"

Of course the crowd went nuts and the booing started..... Gary finished the show and was AWESOME !
Great memory.... I consider myself fortunate to have had the chance to see Gary live R.I.P Gary !

Just another thought on pro-shot video..... I am almost certain that the Alice Cooper concert that aired on MTV in 86 or 87 (Constrictor tour ) was shot while VVI was with them. Possibly some of it shot in Cleveland,Ohio. Much like the KISS Animalize video was partially shot there as well.

The Thrills In The Night video was shot in Cleveland, Ohio.

Animalize:Live Uncensored was at Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan.

We have spoken before about the possibility of a video existing from that tour. Vinnie (under one of his screen names) was very excited if we could find the video.

This pic is just badass... I always come back to this lineup, especially in makeup, as my all time favorite KISS lineup. Looks like Eric did some extra teasing on his hair that day... or maybe the humidity in Brazil got to it:
