Vinnie's Most Melodic Solo?

Post by aeroflott »

I was thinking about VV's solo playing and it seems in VVI, it was all about how many notes he could fit in to most of his solos. Which got me thinking about other songs he's solo'd on where the playing fits the song well without the mad "bumblebee" signature he seemed to have.

In my estimation, has to be Saint & Sinner from Creatures:

Great, great song - probably my favourite Kiss track. No co-writing credits for VV on this one, but he played the solo at 2:30. You can hear his style in there, but this solo is simple, clean and melodic, and fits the laid back vibe of the track perfectly.

Great stuff. Shame Kiss never played this track live - it's a belter. Carr's playing is especially strong - he's a powerhouse throughout (I understand it was Eric's favourite Kiss track too).

Invincible.
I think his violin influence is why he plays fast. If you watch any quality classical Orchestra they will have a soloist play crazy fast. Yes some solos particularly on gfh seem to have no melody but I think some work well. Asg is very tonned down.
I do think people don't understand vv. They like the beck / holdsworth vv which for sure is more commercial but the guys who say he played too fast are not classical music fans in general. Ok yngwie mixes violin speed and melody more than vv but vv also came out of kiss who for better or worse are a dumb rock band at heart. Vv obviously was also having a lot of fun, and he is a very funny guy if he likes you.

Both suggestions are super tasty!
Promises made, crying in vain, all empty. Never accepting the blame and not letting go of the shame. A river of tears, as months turn to years, all wasted. On someone not willing to change. Now only a shadow remains! :(

my favorite V solo is what he did on All hell's breaking loose, that's untouchable, the egyptian flavor reminded me of his Ankh persona
that was fantastic

Sammy, What a wonderful point !!!! I never thought of that. If they were telling the truth ( P&G well known fabricators ) , then they didn't know they wouldn't be wearing the makeup on the album. The Egyptian flavor is GENIUS. It would be great to ask Vinnie if that is what he was thinking. Character tone painting.
THINK: Porter Wagoner

Yes I think it is because of ankh because it's pretty random solo in all hells breaking loose. I wish the lick it up producer was contactable. One for db geek I guess.

I find it hard to understand why all hells breaking loose isn't a regular tune in kiss set

Because while it's got some nice stuff in it, the rap verses make it blah! Hey, at least Paul wouldn't have to sing!

It was a single with a video clip but got left behind.

It's a bit of a fan favourite though.

I'd go with back on the streets.... still has some "bumblebee" but it works with the sweet chord progression and those sick bends throughout .

That's a great observation. All hell's Breaking Loose is a great song all round - really unique.
