Animalize Vinnie Vincent Style -

In a 1996 interview Vinnie Vincent was quoted as saying that he had the following tunes demoed and ready to go for what turned out to be the Animalize record.

Boyz Are Gonna Rock
Shoot U Full of Love
Back on the Streets
Twisted
Animal
I Wanna Be Your Victim
Do You wanna Make Love

Assuming that is true and that they would've all made the album what tunes do you think Gene would've sang and what tunes you you think Paul would've sang?

Also, what tunes would you have liked to have seen the band keep or dump that did end up on Animalize as we now know it? What would your running order track wise of this fantasy Animalize album be?

Here's how I think it would've broken down -

Boyz Are Gonna Rock (Paul vocals)
Shoot U Full of Love (Paul vocals)
Twisted (Gene vocals)
Animal (Gene vocals)
Back on the Streets (Paul vocals)
Do You Wanna Make Love (Paul vocals)
I Wanna Be Your Victim (Paul vocals)

I would've kept

I've Had Enough (Into the Fire)
Heaven's On Fire
Under The Gun
Lonely Is The Hunter
Thrills In The Night

I would've dumped

Burn Bitch Burn
Murder In High Heels
While The City Sleeps
Get All You Can Take

Running order (of course I could and probably will change my mind on this part on a daily basis...)

I've Had Enough (Into the Fire)
Heaven's On Fire
Twisted
Shoot U Full of Love
Lonely Is The Hunter
Under The Gun
Boyz Are Gonna Rock
Animal
Back On The Streets
Thrills In The Night
Do You Wanna Make Love
I Wanna Be Your Victim

my guess is this

Boyz Are Gonna Rock (Gene vocals)
Shoot U Full of Love (Paul vocals)
Twisted (eric vocals)
Animal (Paul vocals)
Back on the Streets (vinnie vocals)
Do You Wanna Make Love (Paul vocals)
I Wanna Be Your Victim (gene vocals)

the animal solo is kicking. only thing i like better on vinnie's kiss albums is the drum sound the rest is all VVI.

I would have dropped the following trax:

Burn Bitch Burn
Murder In High Heels
While The City Sleeps
Lonely us the Hunter

The rest of the animalize material was very strong, these tracks would have fit very well with Vinnies material, especially animal, twisted & boyz are gonna rock...it would have Been great to have seen the final album had vinnie stayed with Kiss!

Animalize only had nine tracks, so I'm stickin' with ten, so the official track listing is:

SIDE ONE
1. I've Had Enough (Into The Fire)
2. Heaven's On Fire
3. Boyz Are Gonna Rock (Gene vox)
4. Shoot U Full of Love (Paul vox)
5. Twisted (Gene vox)
SIDE TWO
6. Do You Wanna Make Love (Paul vox)
7. Back on the Streets (Vinnie and Paul share vox like the VVI version)
8. Animal (Eric vox)
9. I Wanna Be Your Victim (Gene vox)
10. While The City Sleeps (always liked this Gene track, although most don't)

This seems perfect to me... so I'll just stick with this one, :3

Makes you wonder if Vinnie's song "Animal" was the original inspiration for the title "Animalize?"

Cmon guys don't be dumping all the Gene songs :D (though his songwriting sucks here)

Well, first off, Gene hit a low point in his songwriting with Animalize and Asylum. But if I had to hear one track listing with sub-par Gene songs...this listing would work well together musically.

Everytime I listen to "Animal" I imagine Gene singing the chorus part going "Aaaaaaaaaaaaanimal!" With that little smirk on his face that he does when he sings. I always wonder what it would've been like if it was a KISS song.

Wow, just imagine what a great album it could have been! Here's my suggestion for a nice tracklist:

1. Boyz Are Gonna Rock (Paul vocals)
2. I've had enough (into the fire)
3. Shoot U Full of Love (Paul vocals)
4. Heaven's on fire
5. Twisted (Gene vocals)
6. Thrills in the night
7. Animal (Gene vocals)
8. Do You Wanna Make Love (Paul vocals)
9. I Wanna Be Your Victim (Paul vocals)
10. Back on the Streets (Paul vocals)

Ok so the concept of Vinnie still being in kiss post North American leg of the LIU Tour has animalize turning into a Vinnie Vincent album... As much as I love the 1st VVI album I would definitely keep more of the Paul Stanley penned titles like Thrills in the Night & Get all you can Take as well as I've had Enough & Heavens on Fire...

It almost was a Vinnie-powered album. Kiss would have been unstoppable.

Yep they would have shredded the competition without a doubt! Motley & Ratt had too much limelight in the mid 80's... Kiss should have been a step ahead all of those bands with their experience...

I believe Ratt got better with each album. Detonator is Ratt-N- Roll at it's finest. It has all of the elements that they tried to achieve.

I could never make it through a full Motley album after S.A.T.D. until Motley Crue '94 with Corabi.
T.F.F.L. AND MC94 are my favorite Crue albums.

Kiss with Vinnie would have owned those albums though.

MC94 is an amazing album that was cast aside by the record company and sacrificed at the altar of grunge. That album is a band technically firing on all cylinders, great lyrics, great riffs and amazing production that captures a perfect balance of playing & overdubbing.

I was a casual MC fan until this album and then an immediate outcast because everyone I knew said MC94 sucked. I just couldn't understand that.

Great choice, can you imagine what ' I've Had Enough " would have sounded like w/ Vinnies touch ?

This seems perfect to me... so I'll just stick with this one, :3

Believe me, the only reason the diehards said that album sucked was because Vince was absent... that's my fave Crue album after S@TD and 2F4L. The song Droppin' Like Flies fukn kicked ass!

Tommy plays like a freakin' machine on that album. Power To The Music...the drumming is immaculate.

Oh yes, I can picture that maniacal look as Gene Simmons is singing into the microphone.

It would have been great if VV had held on and recorded one more kiss album. Even if he didn't go out on tour with them for it.

I've always liked this song, for me its kind of become a 'Gene' standard, like he was following some sort of songwriting template since Naked City!

Although admittedly, neither of those songs are poetical masterpieces....

weird beano, i've always compared those two songs also. i love gene's more melodic side (naked city, while the city sleeps, good girl gone bad, somewhere between heaven and hell).

It also seemed that at this point Gene was at his best point vocally (i'd say 1978-85, starting off with the solo album), as opposed to just grunting and growling his way through a song. I really am a big fan of nearly everything they've done, but I cant help but feel that with songs like Christine Sixteen, Love 'em & Leave 'em, Almost human etc, i'm listening to a put on persona as opposed to a serious recording artist.

I've always loved Gene's voice...okay...you can't beat Paul Stanley on lead vocals. I always thought Gene's vocals on God of Thunder and Unholy rocked!

I think KISS stopped being a band and started being an act sometime around REVENGE. Instead of being a band working together to make music, they became a business making a product. They did focus groups before REVENGE to find out what kind of songs they should be recording. THAT'S not a band.
It went way over the top with the reunion tour.

Well if they were doing focus groups prior to revenge to determine what sort of songs to write we wee probably very lucky that we didn't end up with a hip hop kiss album...

Yeah, because let's be honest: as "cool" as Paul is, and as good of a singer he was back then, Robert Fleishman was just on an entirely different league.

Would have been interesting. Ashes to Ashes sung by Paul would have been a huge kiss anthem. Thrills in the night and back on the streets were both ejected from creatures of the night. No way would kiss have let vv sing it in animalize. Of course on creatures he wouldn't as not officially in band.

Also non of the song credits would have been only vv. Paul and gene would have re written lyrics and added something minor to get Co writing credit
