Great news! It's changed course! Now instead of hitting 100-150 south of my town, it's going to hit within 30km of my town! Yee ha! Shit happens! Throwing load straps over my roof this arvo to help hold the roof on! Hopefully as I have a flat roof and not a pointy roof that may assist in keeping it on! I'll still sleep in the downstairs part of the house though. Can't go anywhere as I've too much to clean up at work and we sell propane.....so EVERYONE panics! "I'm gonna run out of gas!!! Even though they'd have 3-4 months worth in their bottle!! Stupid humans!!!! Still a teeny tiny chance it'll not hit BUT doesn't look like it! Winds at centre to hit 260km so I'm gonna put on my lycra and you can watch the news and see if you can catch a glimpse of "The Flying Shram"!!!!! Either way it's gonna be very wet here at home for a few days!

The tins of baked beans worked and I blew it away!!!! Lucky for the Cairns area it decided to head a little further south and hit land about 60 miles south of me (as the crow flys) and since I was on the northern side of it, things were pretty good! Cyclones go clockwise so bad winds are on the south side of them, while hurricanes go anti-clockwise so the bad winds are on the northern side. Same as water going down the sink like on the Simpsons!!!!! Winds gusts only got up to about 70 miles/hr so all was cool! Only lost 2 old awnings (that probably needed replacing anyway!) and a few branches. Where I am I'm 60 feet above sea level so a tidal surge is not a worry for me. It was a weird cyclone though? Wind gusts only started 2 hours before the main event and I had power up till an hour before it! A tree fell on the lines near the sub-station and the station itself had some minor damage so I had no power for 60 hours! I've got a small genset so I could run my deep freezer and fridge as well as a TV and the satellite tv set-top box so I was all good!!! Also we hardy got any rain on the northern side too??? Cairns only had about an inch over the 3-4 hours while Townsville which is slightly further away from the eye than Cairns (but on the southern side) got dumped on! 8-9 inches in the 3-4 hours! My nephew was in the eye of it though in Tully on his in-laws cane farm and the farm house he lived in is pretty effed!!!! Cyclone Larry 5 years ago was a lot worse ago for me! I still had tha house locked up tight though! Cyclones are just a part of living up here in the north of Queensland!
